{Behind the Lens with Ginger Diaz} Adam and Shelley’s small courthouse wedding was sweet and refreshing. I love it when couples choose what feels right for them, whatever that may be. The couple lives in Oregon, where Adam is training to be a chef, and Shelley is finishing up her doctorate in Psychology. Neither wanted a huge wedding, but didn’t want to elope and leave out some close family members, so the small courthouse wedding was a nice compromise. They decided to get married in San Antonio to be near family, with receptions held later by family in San Antonio and Connecticut.

We met at the Emily Morgan hotel and after a first-look for the couple at the park behind the Alamo, we set off on a walk through downtown towards the courthouse, stopping for pics as we went. Shelley and Adam were game for anything. I love that they were so relaxed and laid-back, enjoying their day. As a photographer, I’m usually left with only 30-60 minutes of couple-only time on a wedding day schedule, so having such an extended time with a couple was a luxury we all enjoyed. It left more time to experiment and gave the couple so many options to choose from for their home prints and albums. Couples, if you opt out of a first-look, please consider building in some extended time with your photographer, either on your wedding day or in a more laid-back day-after (or weeks-after) session. You won’t regret it.

We just love the simplicity of a courthouse wedding! Oh, and the fact that the bride and groom split a slurpie in the park just before! Too cute! Did I mention the bride’s AMAZING blue shoes?! ;)
