Soft Blue, Pink & Orange Beach Wedding Inspiration Board

posted by Karin | in Inspiration Boards

As you may know by now, we are currently on the beautiful island of Captiva. Sounds exotic, right? If you’ve never heard of it, it is a little barrier island off the coast of Ft. Myers, FL. Captiva Island is truly our home away from home. Here we can experience 50 shades of blue, probably more actually. It is these shades of blue that inspired today’s wedding inspiration board. Along with a few other colors too :)

When in the South, you need to think like a Southerner, right? For me, a Northerner, nothing speaks more Southern to me than dressing up your groom in a cool, seersucker, pale blue suit. One of our first shades of blue. Many beach weddings may be destinations, so what better way to accent the exoticness than by wrapping all the favors in vintage maps. Nowadays, “paper” maps make great conversation pieces. I love the various shades of blue in the map and on the sweet vintage plate. The beautiful sea grass is such a gorgeous shade of pink. While not blue, this particular grass is largely only found on the coast. Starfish and sand go together like peanut butter and jelly, and make cute decorations for any beach wedding, North or South ;) There is nothing better than beautiful vintage glassware that offers many shades of blue, perfect as centerpieces down a long table. Escort cards in shades of peach and pink offer a really pretty accent color to all the shades of blue.

I am so excited to be “home” again, even for only a little while :)

Happy Wednesday!! It is Wednesday, right…?

xoxo

What’s In My Suitcase?

posted by Alexandra | in Heart to Hearts

By the time you read this, I will be 30,000 feet in the air on my way to the Sunshine State :) It’s a funny thing about vacation. The wait up until the day you leave seems like forever, and then suddenly, it’s here. I decided to put together a quick, fun, little post to share with you today. It’s a peek at what I’ve got in my suitcase!! Mind you this isn’t everything. Light packer I am not. In fact, I’ve got probably more than enough stuff… Take a look!

 What's In My Suitcase?
  1. Delsey Luggage (in purple) – I picked this up last year when my old suitcase literally fell apart at the seams. It’s one of those hardshell suitcases with wheels that go any which way (supremely awesome invention by the way).
  2. Australian Gold Suntan Lotion – For whatever reason, you can’t find this brand up North. So I wait every year to head down to Florida and pick some up. It smells heavenly of coconut.
  3. Essie Nail Polish – While I did get a pedicure before I left, a girl is entitled to change her mind. And besides, I have fingers as well as toes, and all the time in the world to paint them ;)
  4. Reef Flip Flops – If you have never owned a pair, you need to. It’s like walking on a cloud. I’m rather partial to their Stargazer line. They sparkle :)
  5. Bikini – I don’t actually have this one from J.Crew, I just thought it was super cute.
  6. philosophy’s take a deep breath moisturizer – This oil-free energizing oxygen gel cream will feel wonderful on my skin after the hours I’ll spend in the sun.
  7. Sunglasses – Can’t go to the Sunshine State without ‘em! 8-)
  8. Starbucks – Ok, clearly I’m not packing this in my suitcase. But I happen to know that there is a lovely Starbucks in the Orlando Airport (where I have a two-hour lay over before hopping a thirty-minute flight to Ft. Myers – go figure) that has a caramel frappuccino with my name on it!
  9. Aveda, Be Curly – My hair is naturally curly, and this is the only stuff that keeps the curls from getting frizzy in the humidity.
  10. Headphones – I’m boring. I still have and use the same Apple headphones that came with my iPhone originally. They work perfectly fine for the half-dozen times a year that I use them.
  11. Moleskin – For brainstorming. It’s going to happen. You and I both know it to be true.
  12. The Happiness Project – One of several books I’m bringing with me this trip that I can’t wait to read!

I really hope it’s not wrong to be this excited about a vacation. My first one in two years and I know I need this break. Though I’m a little afraid I won’t know what to do with myself. I’ve been go-go-going for so long. My pre-vacation todo list was about 90% crossed off when I left this morning, and the 10% that wasn’t either wasn’t as important as I originally thought or not in my control. It’s going to be weird to just not do anything at all. I’ll manage somehow, with the help of a fruity drink and an umbrella… or two.

If you love our blog as much as we do, don’t worry, we’ll be back! And actually, we’ve got posts pre-blogged and ready for you during the two weeks we are gone! Stay tuned to our Facebook Page and Twitter Feed for all the latest updates on our vacation and the blog! And be sure to follow me on Instagram (@heartlovewed) for pretty picture overload :)

Internet is pretty spotty on the island, especially the resort (which I think they do on purpose to make sure people actually relax and enjoy their vacation), so I’ll have limited access to email. I will spend one hour at the resort’s Starbucks each day to update (especially on the days we have a post) and will answer email as needed. All emails will be returned in the order in which they were received when I am back in the office on June 11th.

As for you, thank you, as always, for your continued love and support! And please, have an absolutely wonderful long weekend!!! xoxo

Charleston Engagement Session from Britt Croft Photography

posted by Alexandra | in Engagement Sessions

Oh my good grief, it’s raining again! We had such a gorgeous, beautiful weekend last weekend and then bam! four more days of nothing but rain. I have never been so happy to feature an engagement session so full of beautiful sunlight in my life! Sunshine makes me fairly giddy and so does the love between this adorable couple that Britt Croft Photography captured so effortlessly!

Kristi and Michael met at… wait for it… a wedding!! Kind of cliché, they know ;) But neither of them knew very many people at the wedding, just the bride and groom respectively really. Kristi had gone over to one of the few people she did know, and met Michael. They hit it off almost immediately and spent the entire rest of the night talking. Kristi was living in Orlando at the time (where the wedding was held) and Michael was living in South Carolina. A road race the following weekend would bring Kristi to Charleston, and the two tentatively made plans to meet up while she was there.

They ended up meeting up that weekend and unknowingly had what they now consider their first date. It was the perfect evening. Michael met Kristi and her two friends in downtown Charleston, and after they’d given their approval, whisked Kristi away for a walk. The most memorable part of the evening was when they were approached by a homeless man asking for food. Michael’s response to him was genuine and warm. He offered to walk with the man to buy him something to eat. Kristi saw him treat the man with such dignity and respect. She knew then that Michael had a heart that loved people regardless of who they were or what they had to offer.

After that, they spent the rest of the evening walking around Charleston and sharing stories. Kristi says it was every bit like a fairytale. At one point, they were standing on a pier when a dolphin swam by them, and later, they were serenaded by a saxophone player while sitting in the park talking.

They dated long distance for about five (almost six) months, which presented a unique set of challenges, and yet gave them a really great opportunity to get to know each other over the phone with just conversation, prayer and reading scripture together. Kristi’s parents often said that she’d never find someone to marry because her expectations were so high. But Michael surpassed and continues to surpass her every expectation.

On Friday, January 6, 2012, Michael told Kristi that he had to work in the morning but wanted to see her in the afternoon. Hearing that, Kristi had every intention of sleeping in and then getting a few things done around the house. But at 6AM, her phone rang. It was Michael. He asked her to come to the door and let him in where he then asked if she would like to come and watch the sunrise with him. Confused (because she thought he had to work), Kristi agreed to go, but requested that she take a shower first. He said ok, but gently reminded her that the sun would be rising soon and to not take her sweet time ;)

They headed out to Sullivan’s Island where Michael pulled blankets from the car for them to sit on and cuddle up in. As the sun rose, Michael pulled out the Bible they shared so they could read together. He turned to one of their favorite Psalms where Kristi found a personal note from him in the margin. Once she’d finished reading, he turned to another passage, then another, and another, allowing Kristi to read each of the notes he’d left for her. The last one asked her to stand up, turn around and open the front cover of the Bible. She did and then turned back around at the request of the note on the inside. There she found Michael on bended knee, a beautiful ring in his hand. She can’t remember what came next, only that she said yes!

{Behind the Lens with Britt Croft} Engagement sessions to me are all about having genuine fun, feeling amazing, and us all getting to know one another so that the wedding day is like hanging out with old friends (because that means more natural images, which are the best!). Most couples don’t quite know what to expect out of their engagement session, and the grooms are always dreading the “okay now, smile” thing that they’ve come to expect. My engagement sessions are pretty opposite. I always tell my couples that it’s all about having a good time and loving on one another. Easy! We never take ourselves too seriously.

Kristi and Michael joked that it felt like they were on a date…they just brought me along. And afterward, Krsiti told me that Michael had so much fun and that it really made him look forward to all of the pictures on their wedding day. THAT is the whole point of the engagement session…a practice run for the wedding AND amazing pictures to boot that will bring back all of those feelings of anticipation and excitement! Can you tell I love engagement sessions? :)

Easily, what I hope for is that my couples leave their engagement session more in love than when they arrived. When else do you to get dress totally you, hang out in an awesome location, cuddle, kiss, and love on your fiancé, and have amazing pictures made? It’s such a unique experience and I want those pictures to take them back to how exciting this time is.

Kristi and Michael were incredibly genuine and relaxed. We laughed a lot, had so much fun exploring Charleston, and they literally look like the “couple next door.” You know, the couple you would LOVE to be neighbors and friends with :) Their story is unique in that they haven’t been together that long, but they believe so much in the path that God has them on to one another, and during their session, it was SO evident that there is nobody else either of them was made for but one another. They are like two puzzle pieces that literally complete one another, and come on, aren’t they absolutely gorgeous together? I love them and you could probably guess that I’m extremely excited for their May wedding right here in Charleston. It is going to be stunning!

And it was :) Kristi and Michael tied the knot this past weekend!!! You can see a preview of their special day right here. We couldn’t be happier for them both and can’t thank them enough for sharing their love story with us! Congratulations, love and luck to you both!! And a special thank you to Britt Croft for sharing their love with us today! xoxo

Pennsylvania Wedding Photographer | Jillian McGrath Photography

posted by Alexandra | in Sponsorships, Vendor to Love Spotlight

I know that I always begin one of our vendor spotlights by saying how much I completely love/totally adore this vendor. I don’t say that because I feel like I have to or because I feel like I should. I say it because it’s 100% true. My love for Jillian McGrath Photography (comprised of a dynamic photographic husband and wife duo named Jillian and Ryan) is no different. In fact, my love for these two knows no bounds. From the moment we first emailed them to feature this outstanding couple to their super speedy response time, I knew we would make a great team. Pennsylvania and/or destination brides (because they go where you want them to), I know that Jillian and Ryan will be the best team for you!

{Jillian McGrath Photography} is made up of equal parts Ryan and Jillian, a husband and wife dynamic photographic duo (who sound like superheroes to me). Their passion is to capture those moments of awesomeness that you might not have even realized existed between you and your second/better/more fun/[insert your description here] half. They let you be you and just capture the magic that flows from the kick-ass-ness they know is in each of the couples they photograph. They strive to provide you with fresh, honest images while you relax, unwind and dare we say actually laugh and have fun.

Jillian McGrath Photography

They believe that the images they capture should be just as original, unique and beautiful as their couples are. Their approach to photography is creating an honest and natural experience whilst capturing two people in love. By forming personal relationships with their clients from the very first hello, they are able to produce intimate photographs that start with the engagement session and that last through the wedding day and beyond.

What started as a hobby has bloomed into a business, one that holds true to what they love most about people, connecting, being awesome, and the love that their couples share. They love to capture those special little smiles, hand squeezes, kisses and everything in-between. Allowing their couples to just relax, be themselves and express their love openly between each other is what they are all about and exactly why they just adore working with people in love! :)

They would love to meet with you in person, grab some coffee and talk your ear off about who you are and why you are so totally awesome! Or if you’re down, they can easily go for hours about Harry Potter, new music, their love for Apple products or anything involving photography equipment. They truly do love what they do.

{Advice for Couples} Make your wedding day everything that YOU imagine it could be. Be true to who you are. Be true to who you are as a couple. You will love your wedding even more looking back at the photos and videos if it’s a true reflection of the love you share together.

{Most Frequently Asked Question} Brides usually ask them… “How long should we set aside for photos on our wedding day?” Their usual response is to allow 1.5-2 hours to make sure they can capture everything. **Yes, that is Jillian knee deep in the river doing whatever it takes to get the shot (captured doing just so by her husband, Ryan). Just one of the many reasons why I love her to pieces.**

Do you love Jillian and Ryan yet? Ready to make them a part of your best team? We’re so excited to have them as part of our team (i.e. our beautiful family of vendors) and cannot wait to hear that you’ve added them to yours! Be sure to check out even more from these two on their blog, Facebook and Twitter too! You can also see more of their work, reviews from thrilled past brides, and even leave a review and heart rating for yourself too! Pretty nifty, right? We think so! And be on the lookout for a real wedding from them on the blog very soon! ;) xoxo **Photos are the property of Jillian McGrath Photography**
