How to Decorate Your Wedding with Twinkle Lights

There is something about twinkly lights at a wedding that just adds that extra little something creating all kinds of gorgeousness when done right. You may call it girly, sparkly, even cliché and overdone, but for me, twinkle lights and weddings just go together like peanut butter and jelly or a bride and groom :)

We’ve pulled together some tips and inspiration to share with you just how pretty twinkle lights can be. Not just on trees and bushes, but ceilings in venues and tents, and yes, even in mason jars! Because of their popularity, many venues may already have them set up, saving you time and money. We’ve also included several resources where you can purchase specialty lights including LED, battery operated, and even accessories to turn mason jars into sparkly lights for those not-so-DIYer’s! :)

Tip #1: Twinkle lights are most effective in creating a gorgeous detail for a sunset or evening wedding. Never fear, though, daytime weddings can have twinkle lights too, especially if your reception is indoors. And if your ceremony is earlier in the day, watch the magic happen as dusk settles and the lights come on.

Tip #2: Twinkle lights are a beautiful enhancement to take a tent from ordinary to magical under a starry night, especially in a clear tent.

Tip #3: Mirror tiles and twinkle lights would make for an ah-mazing backdrop for a photo booth. After the wedding, wouldn’t this DIY project make the perfect wall art in your living room or master bedroom? Great mood lighting and conversation piece!

Tip #4: Twinkle lights provide an awesome background for a ceremony, whether they are wrapped around a gazebo or an arch. How about built into a wall or hanging straight down from the ceiling to glistening, glimmering, glittering effect?

Tip #5: How about some super simple details that work well as a DIY. Wrap your twinkly lights in tulle, mason jars, even hoola hoops (spray painted a solid color like white or silver) draped with lights for an inexpensive yet eye catching chandelier!

Now, for some online resources for Twinkle Lights :) The set on the left is from Restoration Hardware and just so happens to be on sale! Some of the strings are battery operated along with a plug-in option. The mercury glass bulbs on the right from Pottery Barn are a little twist on the traditional twinkly lights but equally as pretty and aw-inspiring!

And just because we love them (twinkle lights) and this picture so, here’s one more for good measure! Can you imagine saying I do in front of this glimmering, glittering backdrop? Never mind the jaw-dropping photos you could get too? Cue the swoon.

      Hello Kristin!

Thanks so much for reaching out! As a matter of fact…We did some looking around and found these on Save On Crafts! I hope this helps and that these are what you’re looking for! If not, let me know, and I’ll do my best to help you find it!

      Warmly,
      Alexandra

  3. What a great post. Twinkling lights add that extra warmth and romance to a wedding. I love them!!!! And, I love the inspiration you found too

  4. What a gorgeous blog! I’ve saved it for when I plan my special day :)

  5. Great post Alexandra! I can’t agree more with you; lights create the perfect atmosphere and really are a WOW factor! Thank you for sharing! =D

  6. Oh my gosh… this is the most perfect post in the world. I get so excited every time I see twinkle lights in a wedding <3

    • Alexandra says:

Me too!! They’re absolutely perfect no matter the colors, style, or season, right?! :)

  7. You examples are so beautiful. Not to be a killjoy but the lights along to do a cascade as you’ve displayed with the link you provided would cost about $2,500. I love the look but WOW! That is truly cost prohibitive!

    • I meant the lights alone to do the glimmering backdrop. And that is just one area to decorate.
