We’ve convinced you to have an engagement session (because it’s the best decision you’ll ever make), we’ve provided you with inspiration for fashion and locations, and we’ve dazzled you with a whole bunch of engagement rings!! What’s next?? Poses, posing, and what the heck you do with your hands during your engagement shoot!!

Let me be the first to say how daunting it is to pose in front of anyone’s camera. How DO the models do it??! I’ll never know. Because I’m a “Oh, hey-y-y, camera! Gotta go, bye!!” kind of girl. I’m still not 100% comfortable having my picture taken, but I’ve gotten better after two personal headshot sessions (the last one being the best one). With those two sessions under my belt, one horrific senior picture experience, looking photographers blogs and sifting through submissions for the last three years, I can say this next bit with certainty. No two photographers are alike. They each have their own style of shooting, of editing, of working with their couples, etc. You’ll discover their style and personality while browsing their blog and website. You’ll fall in love with a photographer based on what you see and your communication with them. Trust them. That’s the biggest and best tip that I can give you: trust your photographer. Talk to them. Explain your fears, ask your questions, get help with inspiration. They are there to help you make your wedding and engagement photos fabulous, so trust them, and talk to them.

My second piece of advice is to have fun! Look at it only as spending an afternoon with the person you love the most. Love on him, have him love on you. Kiss, hug, play, laugh. Be silly, be goofy, be sweet, romantic. Be yourselves, relax as best you can, breathe, trust that your photographer will do what’s best for you, and have fun!! Gathering inspiration of some of your favorite poses is a really great idea! At the same time, don’t expect your photographer to just stick with what you want. Remember, they have a style, and they will get to know you. Trust them to know what poses will work and which ones won’t. I promise they’ll get your good side no matter what! Lastly, don’t compare yourself to other couples, or worse, models. Be you and let your love for each other shine through, that’s really the best you can do. These couples did it, you can, too!!

And in case your fella is wondering about where he’ll put his hands (because he’s gonna ask), tell him where he usually do (as long as it’s PG-13 appropriate)!! ;)
What’s your favorite pose? Divulge below!!
